Physics Mnemonics Inductive and Capacitive circuits Once upon a time, the symbol E (for electromotive force) was used to designate voltages. Then, every student learned the phrase ELI the ICE man as a reminder that:
For an inductive (L) circuit, the EMF (E) is ahead of the current (I)
While for a capactive circuit (C), the current (I) is ahead of the EMF (E).
And then they all lived happily ever after.

Physics Mnemonics
To remember thermodynamic derivative definitions and Maxwell relations, use the thermodynamic square: Good Physicists Have Studied Under Very Fine Teachers (G = Gibbs free energy, P = pressure, H = enthalpy, S = entropy, U = internal energy, V = volume, F = Helmholtz free energy, T = temperature)
If we want to know what dG is defined as, we take the two opposite corners as the coefficients, and the diagonal corners as the differential terms. so dG = -SdT+VdP (neglecting chemical potentials). Thus, we also know that dG/dT = -S (at constant pressure), and dG/dP = V (at constant temperature).
